When I think of toddler pageants I think of two things: "Toddlers & Tiaras" and JonBenét Ramsey. I think of how annoying and embarrassing the 3-7 year old pageant girls are along with their obnoxious parents. Then, I think of the struggles and mourning JonBenét's family went through during the investigations of her brutal death. Pageants are dangerous and threatening to children's lives.
And I'm sorry, but this is just gross to me. I don't understand the point in dressing your kids up to look like Chuckie dolls. I just don't! These parents are living their selfish lives through their children. They are making their children grow up faster before their time. They are training them to think that competition is the way of life.
Pageants are expensive, sometimes painful (depending on how far the parents go), and can be very stressful for the child. I feel like they lose the importance of childhood when they undergo pageants. The toddlers lose the fun and interactions with other children of their age outside of the pageant world. Most of the time they don't even want to do the pageants. It's the parents forcing them to! Sometimes, the toddlers just want to do what they want to do; they want to be kids.
I understand pageants can lead towards great accomplishments; Public Speaking, Business Workers, Performers, etc. For the most part, it's training your child how to stand out and how to not be afraid to become their own individual. Well fuck that, because parents of today are definitely injecting Botox in their kids faces, making them shave their legs at age 7, and dressing them up in prostitute costumes. -_-
A nicer way of saying this is: " There are better ways to prove just how talented and original your child can be without placing them in competitive pageants.
